"When the Leftists' Collective Madness Subsides, the Country Will Return to Normal"
Hong Joon-pyo, the Mayor of Daegu, emphasized, "At this point, what we must do is to promptly reorganize the party and present new hope."
On the 17th, Mayor Hong said on his Facebook, "No matter what, would the people of the Republic of Korea make a criminal or a rioter the president?" He added, "Now that the impeachment has gone to the Constitutional Court and the prosecution and police are investigating the case, let's return to our daily lives," and said, "Once the collective frenzy of the left subsides, the country will normalize again. That is the strength of the Republic of Korea."
Mayor Hong also stated that the debate with Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon is not a quarrel. He said, "Debating with Mayor Oh is not a quarrel but a debate," and pointed out, "It is regrettable that some broadcasting stations report this as a fight, unable to distinguish between the two."
He continued, "It is regrettable that Mayor Oh switched from opposing to supporting the impeachment, but he must have had his reasons," and said, "Only a very small number of our party members supported the emergency martial law. Although it was the president's misjudgment, the Democratic Party's atrocity of holding the National Assembly hostage had reached its peak."
Earlier, on the 12th, Mayor Oh stated on Facebook that the impeachment of President Yoon Seok-yeol should be established as the party's official stance. Mayor Oh said, "The president, who should take responsibility, remains silent, and the party is divided," and added, "The economic situation must be normalized quickly. Now, a decision must be made for the future of the Republic of Korea." He emphasized, "Based on the facts revealed so far, the president must face legal judgment through impeachment. That decision should be the party's official stance. The party must be united in the face of national issues."
Subsequently, on the 14th, Mayor Hong posted on Facebook, "Just two days after the resolution by all city and provincial governors opposing impeachment, the chairman who led the meeting, the Mayor of Incheon, and the Mayor of Seoul reversed their stance to support impeachment without consulting other governors, so the People Power Party's council of city and provincial governors can no longer be trusted by party members and the public," and said, "It is regrettable, but let each person work for regional stability and express their political views individually."
