Encouraging Promising Athletes as the Foundation of Elite Sports
The Geochang County Sports Council in Gyeongnam announced on the 17th that it held the ‘Youth Promising Athlete Encouragement Fund Award Ceremony’ in the county office’s main conference room and awarded encouragement funds to 30 youth athletes.
The Youth Promising Athlete Encouragement Fund is a scholarship given to elementary, middle, and high school athletes within the county who have represented Geochang County and achieved excellent results in various sports competitions throughout the year.
About 100 people, including County Governor Gu In-mo, Geochang County Education Director Kim In-su, county council members, and parents, attended the ceremony to congratulate and encourage the promising youth athletes of Geochang County.
The scholarship recipients include 10 athletes in the elementary division, such as Jeong Chae-yoon (Saetbyeol Elementary School, 6th grade), who won first place in the 50m backstroke at the ‘Youth National Masters Swimming Competition’; 10 athletes in the middle school division, including Baek Seo-bin (Geochang Girls’ Middle School, 1st grade), who placed second in the 100m track event at the ‘National Middle and High School Athletics Competition’; and 10 athletes in the high school division, including Yoo Min-joo (Daeseong Il High School, 2nd grade), who won first place in the men’s 81kg category at the ‘National Youth Weightlifting Championships’.
County Governor Gu In-mo said, “I am very proud of the youth athletes who have achieved valuable results through sportsmanship symbolizing ‘passion and fairness’ and ‘respect and harmony.’ I hope they will continue to challenge themselves and grow into outstanding athletes who inspire and give hope to the people of Geochang County.”
Meanwhile, Geochang County is implementing various support projects such as the ‘Outstanding Athlete Discovery and Development Support Project’ and the ‘Elite Sports Team Development Project’ to foster youth athletes and promote professional sports.
