Busan Cosmetics Industry Digital Innovation Strategy Forum with Industry-Academia-Research Experts Held
Exploring Measures to Strengthen Global Competitiveness of Busan Cosmetics Industry Based on Digital Transformation
The Busan Institute of Science and Technology Promotion (BISTEP) held the "7th Busan Future Technology Innovation Forum" on the 13th at Avani Central Hotel Busan, under the theme "Digital Innovation Strategy for Busan's Cosmetics Industry."

This forum, organized to explore ways for Busan's cosmetics industry to discover new growth engines and strengthen competitiveness through digital transformation, began with an opening address by BISTEP Director Kim Young-bu, followed by congratulatory remarks from Cho Shin-haeng, Director of the Korea Cosmetic Industry Institute (KCII), and a congratulatory message from Baek Jong-heon, a member of the Health and Welfare Committee and National Assembly member from the People Power Party.
BISTEP Director Kim Young-bu stated, "Busan has high potential to create new growth engines through the high-quality development of the cosmetics industry," adding, "I hope active discussions will take place to foster and develop the local cosmetics industry based on digital transformation."
KCII Director Cho Shin-haeng said, "The cosmetics industry has undergone significant changes since COVID-19 but is recovering through export diversification," and added, "This forum will present important directions for the cosmetics industry to secure sustainable growth and international competitiveness in the digital transformation era."
Baek Jong-heon, National Assembly member for Geumjeong-gu, Busan, and member of the Health and Welfare Committee from the People Power Party, emphasized, "The in-depth planning report by Professor Lee Jin-tae of Kyungsung University at this forum will be an important milestone for strengthening the global competitiveness of Busan's cosmetics industry and for Busan to leap forward as a luxury cosmetics beauty city through digital innovation and the convergence of the beauty industry."
He also concluded his congratulatory remarks by saying, "I sincerely congratulate the hosting of the forum and wish happiness and good fortune to all attendees and their families."
The forum's keynote presentations were delivered by Cho Dong-hoon, Director of the Gyeongbuk Bio Industry Institute, and Professor Lee Jin-tae from the Department of Cosmetics at Kyungsung University. During the subsequent panel discussion, Hong Jin-gi, Director of the Regional Industry Location Institute, emphasized, "Digital transformation utilizing big data and AI is essential to strengthen the global competitiveness of K-Beauty," while Professor Kim Ae-kyung of Dongmyung University suggested, "Digital technology education in the beauty industry is important, and consumer data utilization is necessary for developing customized products."
Additionally, Lee Kang-woo, Head of the Korea Institute for Industrial Technology Evaluation and Planning, stated, "Process and service innovation using big data and AI are key to the growth of the cosmetics industry," highlighting the need for data-driven differentiation strategies. Professor Jang Young-ah of Daegu Haany University stressed, "Expanding smart factory and digital manufacturing education infrastructure is important for enhancing students' practical skills," and Hong Heon-woo, Planning Director of the Korea Health Industry Development Institute, expressed expectations for Busan's leading role by saying, "Linking with national bio big data can strengthen the international competitiveness of the cosmetics industry."
