GIST Graduate School of AI Policy and Strategy, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and CJ OliveNetworks Participate
The Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, President Lim Ki-cheol) announced on the 17th that it held the ‘2024 AI Policy Strategy Forum’ at the CJ Talent Development Center Leadership Center Grand Hall.
The forum, co-hosted by the GIST Graduate School of AI Policy Strategy (Dean Kim Jun-ha) and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and organized by the KDI School of Public Policy and Management and CJ OliveNetworks, was attended by over 200 participants including political figures, academic experts, industry professionals, and related organizations.
In his welcoming remarks, GIST President Lim Ki-cheol stated, “This forum, themed ‘Human-Centered Future,’ is an essential discussion to understand the impact of AI on society beyond mere technological advancement and to design the future centered on humans.” He added, “Furthermore, it will be a meaningful occasion to share innovative AI utilization cases in both public and private sectors and to contemplate the present and future of AI.”
At the forum, under the theme ‘Human-Centered Future: AI, Creativity, and Public Value,’ discussions were held on digital transformation and public innovation driven by the rapid development of AI technology, and excellent cases of AI technology convergence in public and private sectors were shared.
On the first day, the 12th, four sessions were held on topics such as AI for public sector innovation, AI for education and culture, AI and data science for policy science and policy engineering, and AI agents for safe city design. On the second day, the 13th, three sessions followed on AI convergence technology for future generations, humanities knowledge archives?generative AI and the expansion of humanities knowledge, and AI era and human death.
Dean Kim Jun-ha of the Graduate School of AI Policy Strategy unveiled to the public for the first time the AI digital textbook platform ‘AI Professor Kim,’ which will set the direction for AI textbooks.
AI Professor Kim learns from various teaching materials such as a specific lecturer’s lecture videos (MOOC), textbooks, papers, and lecture presentation materials (PDF, PPT) through a multimodal data input method, then assists the lecturer’s class by answering in real-time over 1,000 different questions posed by about 1,000 students, serving as an AI teaching assistant. This platform can also be used in arts and physical education fields like dance and music, as well as technical learning requiring practice.
Professor Gong Deuk-jo of the Graduate School of AI Policy Strategy announced the AI-based foreign news big data analysis platform construction and operation project being promoted in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stating plans to utilize the latest AI technology to analyze vast foreign news data to enhance Korea’s image, establish diplomatic strategies, and respond to misinformation.
Dean Kim Jun-ha said, “This forum was an important opportunity for various stakeholders from public, private, and academic sectors to come together and reflect on humanity in the AI era,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to create a sustainable future through the harmony of AI technology and public value.”
GIST’s Graduate School of AI Policy Strategy, which opened last September as Korea’s first institution to train AI policy strategy experts at the master’s and doctoral levels, is conducting policy and strategy education programs that integrate AI technology with various fields such as economy, society, and culture.
