The Fruits of Efforts Over the Past Year
Yangsan City successfully held the performance report meeting for the ‘2024 Yangsan City Alleyway Commercial District Revitalization Support Project,’ which was promoted together with the Gyeongnam Investment and Economic Promotion Agency on the 17th.
Four alleyway commercial district communities that participated in this year’s project?the Obong Cheongnyong-ro Prosperity Association, Mokhwa-ro Shopping District Prosperity Association, Wondong-myeon Merchants Association, and Yangsan Mulgeum Lotte Cinema Merchants Forum?presented the results of various projects they directly planned and implemented over the past year to revitalize the alleyway commercial districts.
Each community also took time to explore the future direction the commercial districts should take.
So far, each merchants’ association has promoted various projects that highlight the characteristics of their regions, such as small-scale environmental improvements in alleyway commercial districts, hosting events and festivals, and developing alleyway commercial district brands, which have led to noticeable results such as increased visitors and sales.
In particular, the ‘Stairway Film Festival’ conducted by the Obong Cheongnyong-ro Prosperity Association, the ‘3rd Yangsan Film Festival Co-hosted’ by the Mulgeum Lotte Cinema Merchants Forum, the ‘Three-Go Festival’ by the Mokhwa-ro Shopping District Prosperity Association, and the ‘Capturing Summer’ by the Wondong-myeon Merchants Association each revealed the unique colors of their respective commercial districts and attracted great interest.
A Yangsan City official stated, “The ‘Alleyway Commercial District Revitalization Support Project’ is meaningful in that it has contributed even a little to invigorating the local economy and strengthening the competitiveness of alleyway commercial districts. We will continue to strive for the long-term development of alleyway commercial districts through ongoing support and attention.”
Based on this year’s project experience, Yangsan City plans to promote the Alleyway Commercial District Revitalization Support Project again next year. For newly organized alleyway commercial district communities, support will be provided to 4 locations (30 million KRW per location), and for continuously growing alleyway commercial district communities (participating in the 2024 project), support will be provided to 2 locations (15 million KRW per location).
