The boy is believed to have taken the key and entered the car trunk while his parents were resting at home, then became trapped inside. After realizing the key was missing, the parents rushed outside and found the boy inside the car, but it was already too late. A local resident said they heard a chilling scream from down the street. Another resident described it as a "very sad scene" and said, "Children and cars are not a good combination." Paramedics stated that the child likely died from a heart condition. Local police also confirmed that there is no suspicion of homicide in this death.
Meanwhile, unlike in movies, if someone is actually trapped in a trunk, they can open the trunk and escape using the 'emergency release lever' button. This button is mostly luminescent, making it easy to find even in the dark trunk. Pressing or pulling this button allows the trunk door to open easily. In the United States, vehicles released after 2001 are equipped with an emergency release lever inside the trunk. This is to prevent crimes and accidents. In 2017, there was an incident in the U.S. where a woman kidnapped by a stranger was confined in a trunk and escaped using the 'emergency release lever.' If the button is not visible, it may be covered, so it is advisable to check its location in advance.
Unlike in movies, if you are actually trapped in a trunk, you can open the trunk and escape by using the 'Emergency Escape Lever' button. This button is mostly made with a phosphorescent material, so it can be easily found even in a dark trunk. Pressing or pulling this button allows you to easily open the trunk door. For older vehicles without an escape lever, moving a part called a link or rod located behind the rod-shaped keyhole up and down will release the lock. Although the shape and type vary depending on the car model, the operating principle is similar. In some vehicles, a button-type release device is installed behind a cover, and pressing the button behind the finger hole inside the trunk releases the lock and opens it.
