Since 2019, Inje-gun has invested a total project cost of 16.2 billion KRW to secure connectivity with National Road No. 31, which directly connects to the Seoul-Yangyang Expressway, and to improve convenience for travelers. The project involved widening and paving a 2.86 km section of a two-lane road connecting Jeongjari (Maebongjae) in Nam-myeon and Hanam 1-ri (Seoul-Yangyang Expressway Inje IC) in Sangnam-myeon.

With the opening of this road, the traffic conditions on County Road No. 6 have greatly improved. Previously, traveling from Bupyeong-ri in Nam-myeon, adjacent to Soyang Lake, to Inje IC in Sangnam-myeon via National Road No. 31 took about 43 minutes over a distance of approximately 47 km. However, using County Road No. 6, the travel distance is reduced to 26 km and the travel time to 26 minutes, shortening the distance by 21 km and the time by about 18 minutes.

Furthermore, with the formation of a transportation network connecting to the ‘National Road No. 31 Inje Sangnam~Girin Road Construction Project’ by the Wonju Regional Construction and Management Administration of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, scheduled to begin construction in 2025, it is expected to contribute to the development of the local tourism industry and economic revitalization.

Additionally, National Road No. 31 has been used as an operational road for military training by military units stationed in the area, but County Road No. 6 is expected to be used concurrently as a bypass road for tactical military vehicles in the future.

This is anticipated to help prevent traffic accidents for travelers on National Road No. 31, enhance safety in nearby school zones, and alleviate some traffic congestion caused during tactical training exercises.

Inje-gun opened the road to general vehicles from 5 p.m. on December 16, allowing free passage currently.

An official from Inje-gun stated, “With the opening of County Road No. 6, we will do our best to expand the transportation network, promote the activation of the tourism industry by linking tourist sites, and improve convenience for local residents and tourists through the expansion of transportation infrastructure.”
