Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Governor Oh Young-hoon, Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial Council Chairman Lee Sang-bong, and Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial Office of Education Superintendent Kim Kwang-soo held a joint press conference at 10 a.m. on the 16th in the Jeju Provincial Government press room to announce a 'Joint Statement' regarding the passage of the presidential impeachment motion.


The heads of the three institutions expressed a joint position on the National Assembly's passage of the impeachment motion against President Yoon Seok-yeol through the joint statement, presenting the direction and determination to protect the stable lives of the residents during the impeachment political situation.


In the joint statement, they said, "The passage of the impeachment motion is the result of the unified will of the residents to uphold the constitutional order and protect democracy," adding, "Although the road ahead is long, we will overcome the crisis together with the residents."


They also pledged to closely consult with the central government under the acting presidential authority system to minimize the administrative vacuum and actively utilize all administrative and legal powers necessary to stabilize residents' lives.


In particular, they will prepare and implement measures to stabilize the local economy to prevent excessive anxiety from shrinking the regional economy, and urge the government to promptly prepare a supplementary budget.


Furthermore, they will strengthen cooperation with the military and police to secure public safety and ensure the uninterrupted provision of essential public services such as healthcare. In the education sector, they will create a safe educational environment so that students can focus on their studies with peace of mind and support the normal operation of the curriculum.


Meanwhile, the three heads pointed out recent attempts to damage and distort the value of Jeju 4·3 during the emergency martial law situation, expressing their firm stance to respond decisively to historical distortion and hold those responsible accountable.


The three heads emphasized, "Jeju Province, the Provincial Council, and the Office of Education will stand by the residents with one heart," and "We will surely overcome this crisis through close communication and cooperation among institutions."
