Former Uijeongbu Mayor Kim Ki-hyung (17th, 20th, and 27th terms) passed away on the 15th at the age of 93.
Former Mayor Kim graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in law and passed the 1963 civil service examination, developing his expertise as an administrative professional through various positions.
Starting as the governor of Pocheon County, Gyeonggi Province in 1976, he was appointed as governor of Hwaseong County, governor of Gimpo County, mayor of Songtan, governor of Siheung County, mayor of Dongducheon, and mayor of Gunpo, carrying out diverse administrative tasks for regional development.
In particular, based on his deep connection with Uijeongbu City, he served as mayor of Uijeongbu three times, making significant contributions to the citizens' lives and the city's development.
From 1986 to 1988, he served as an appointed mayor, focusing on building the foundation of Uijeongbu City, and from 1989 to 1991, as the second appointed mayor, he managed urban administration stably and laid the groundwork for development.
Later, from 1998 to 2002, as the second elected mayor of Uijeongbu, he earned the trust of the citizens and devoted himself to presenting and realizing a new vision for Uijeongbu.
Notably, he dramatically improved the transportation environment by opening the National Road No. 3 and No. 43 bypass roads, and the establishment of the Uijeongbu Arts Center and the comprehensive stadium for citizens became the driving force that laid the foundation of today's Uijeongbu City.
Mayor Kim Dong-geun stated, “The funeral of the deceased will be held as a Uijeongbu City Mayor’s Funeral according to the 'Ordinance on the Procedures and Operation of Uijeongbu City Mayor’s Funeral,' in consultation with the bereaved family. Following the wishes of the deceased and the family, the funeral will be conducted quietly and calmly, omitting the farewell ceremony and other events.”
The bereaved family includes his son, Seong-cheol, and the funeral hall is set up in Room 2 of the Uijeongbu Eulji University Hospital Funeral Hall. The funeral procession will take place at 8 a.m. on the 17th.
