Gangcheon Island, known as the "holy land of backpacking," has long been loved by campers for its open views harmonizing with the Namhan River and its beautiful natural scenery. The newly established camping site on Gangcheon Island is characterized by its nature-friendly space, reflecting the opinions of campers and local residents. Located near Seoul, it boasts excellent accessibility and is recognized as a popular spot for weekend camping and backpacking.
The camping site is situated in an optimal location that preserves the existing terrain of Gangcheon Island as much as possible, allowing visitors to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Namhan River at a glance. The camping sites are generously sized at 8m×8m, larger than typical camping grounds, offering a total of 50 sites. Notably, the camping zones are named after Sejong the Great, Queen Wonkyung, King Hyojong, Queen Inhyeon, and Empress Myeongseong, who have deep historical ties to Yeoju. Through this, campers can enjoy a special rest that allows them to relax in nature while reflecting on historical significance.
In winter, visitors can experience the romantic activity of stargazing and finding constellations under the night sky adorned with stars. On snowy days, they can enjoy the unique winter atmosphere with the sound of burning firewood in front of a campfire combined with the snowy landscape.
Chairman Lee Sun-yeol stated, “Gangcheon Island Camping Site will be operated as a space that preserves the ecological environment while providing campers with unforgettable experiences.” He added, “We will continue to develop various camping programs along with creating a pleasant environment to offer the unique charm of Gangcheon Island Camping Site.” He further mentioned, “In celebration of 2025 as the inaugural year of Yeoju tourism, we will do our best to revitalize tourism in Yeoju.”
Reservations for Gangcheon Island Camping Site can be made online, and detailed information is available on the reservation website.
