Dongdaemun-gu Dementia Safety Center Wins Excellence Award at Seoul City Performance Evaluation Competition
Leading Dementia Prevention and Management with 'Smart Mirror'... Supporting Early Dementia Screening and More
Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced on the 16th that the Dongdaemun-gu Dementia Safety Center received an Excellence Award at the ‘2024 Dementia Management Project Performance Evaluation Competition’ hosted by Seoul City.
Since 2008, Dongdaemun-gu has been operating projects to effectively prevent and manage dementia through the Dementia Safety Center, including ▲early dementia screening ▲public guardianship for dementia ▲support for dementia treatment costs.
Recently, the district received high praise for leading dementia management projects by operating a cognitive/motor program that improves cognitive ability and corrects physical balance using the AI technology-applied ‘Smart Mirror.’
The ‘Smart Mirror’ is a full-length mirror device composed of a ‘sensor camera’ that recognizes movements and a ‘walking pad’ that senses foot pressure.
Users watch themselves in the mirror and follow various movements such as stretching, while the ‘Smart Mirror’ analyzes the user’s posture and provides feedback to help maintain proper physical balance.
Additionally, the district has designated four neighborhoods within the area as ‘Dementia Safety Villages,’ supporting residents to easily receive dementia prevention education in their communities. In 2025, Yongsin-dong is planned to be additionally designated as a Dementia Safety Village.
Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, “I am very pleased that the dementia management project for residents received a good evaluation,” and added, “We will do our best to create a dementia-friendly environment where both dementia patients and their families can be happy.”
