"Yoon, a Traitor Who Directly Undermined Conservative Values"
"Need for Change Centered on Values, Not Power Orientation"
"People Power Party, Strengthening Far-Right and Fascist Tendencies"
Kim Sang-wook, a member of the People Power Party who revealed that he voted in favor of the impeachment motion against President Yoon Suk-yeol, expressed his stance on the party's identity.
On the 16th, Kim posted on his social media account, "Conservatives regard the constitutional order and liberal democracy as values more precious than life," but added, "Yoon Suk-yeol destroyed the constitutional order through martial law and denied liberal democracy, thereby dividing conservatives again and directly damaging conservative values." He continued, "(He is) a traitor to conservatism. It was an urgent priority to stop the unstable Yoon Suk-yeol, who could have even started a war, and fortunately, the impeachment stopped the runaway locomotive."
Kim said, "Now we must rebuild conservatism. The People Power Party's parliamentary floor is mixed with far-right forces that even support military dictatorship and martial law, old factions that only seek power and opportunity, and conservative forces aiming for rational conservatism." He pointed out, "Unfortunately, the far-right power-oriented forces have become the main force rather than the rational conservative-oriented forces. I believe this is the fundamental cause of the recent unconstitutional martial law incident."
Kim also stated, "Among the People Power Party's support base, the moderate conservative faction is leaving, leaving only the extreme supporters, which further strengthens the far-right fascist tendencies. After the Park Geun-hye impeachment incident, a bad experience was learned, and the prevailing thought among extreme supporters is that if they endure, opportunities will come again without reflection." He added, "The president's statement urging the far-right to rise is in line with this. As a result, instead of reforming conservatism based on values, there is a high possibility of adopting a strategy to gather more blind supporters and endure, and it is actually heading in that direction."
Kim further said, "The People Power Party is a party with a president who instigated martial law that destroyed the constitutional order. Therefore, if the far-right fascist tendencies are not overcome, it will be judged as an unconstitutional party violating the constitution, and there is a dangerous situation where the party could be dissolved." He insisted, "For the sake of the nation, the people, liberal democracy, conservatism, and the future of the party, far-right fascism must be guarded against." He also emphasized, "The most important tasks facing the People Power Party now are a sincere apology for the unconstitutional martial law, rejection of far-right fascist tendencies within the party, transformation so that rational conservatives become the core support base instead of extreme supporters, and change into a value-centered party focusing on conservative values rather than power orientation." He stressed, "If this is not achieved, the party will face a crisis leading to dissolution as an unconstitutional party, loss of support from the general public except for extreme far-right fascists, and the limitation of remaining a regional party in Yeongnam, inevitably walking the path of gradual extinction."
Kim said, "A political party should not have regime acquisition as its purpose. A party's goal should be to establish the values it pursues and contribute to the public interest by implementing them for the nation and the people." He added, "Regime creation is something the people choose and decide in the process." Finally, he added, "The People Power Party stands at a crossroads: whether to become a minority far-right fascist unconstitutional party or to be reborn as a legitimate conservative party pursuing conservative values."
