At this performance sharing meeting, about 350 resident autonomy committee members from 16 eup, myeon, and dong attended to review the one-year achievements of resident autonomy and share best practices.
The event opened with a magic show and was diversely organized in the order of △presentation of outstanding resident autonomy cases △congratulatory performance by resident autonomy center students △celebrity singer congratulatory stage △awards ceremony for 16 eup, myeon, and dong.
This year’s performance sharing meeting was arranged as a place of harmony where all 16 eup, myeon, and dong received awards and prize money, moving away from the previous competition-centered award system. In particular, the awards introduced names symbolizing wisdom and cooperation based on the philosophy of Dasan Jeong Yak-yong, embodying the spirit of community.
In the presentation of outstanding resident autonomy cases, distinctive projects promoted by each eup, myeon, and dong and activities to improve the quality of life of local residents were introduced. Through audience evaluation, resident autonomy committee members on site directly participated in the evaluation, and fairness and objectivity were enhanced by combining pre-written document screening and scores from expert judges.
The grand prize, the Dasan Jeong Yak-yong Award, went to the Hwado-eup Resident Autonomy Association, and the other 15 eup, myeon, and dong received the Dasan Sharing Award, Dasan Harmony Award, and Dasan Innovation Award, concluding the event as a festival emphasizing harmony over competition.
Mayor Ju Gwang-deok of Namyangju said, “I thank all resident autonomy committee members who worked hard for the residents throughout 2024. Regardless of the award results, everyone is a champion,” and added, “We will continue to provide wholehearted support so that citizen-led resident autonomy can further develop.”
Namyangju City plans to continue various policies to strengthen the foundation of resident autonomy councils, including △stable operation of resident autonomy councils △discovery of distinctive projects by eup, myeon, and dong △capacity-building education for resident autonomy committee members, and next year, it plans to establish the ‘Namyangju City Resident Autonomy Academy’ to strengthen resident autonomy capabilities through systematic and professional education.
