Defense Industry Export Consultation Meeting Achieves 45 Billion KRW in Consultation Amount

Sacheon City in Gyeongnam announced on the 16th that it held the ‘2024 Sacheon Airshow Settlement General Meeting and Service Report Meeting’ in the large conference room on the 2nd floor of City Hall, attended by Mayor Park Dongsik, members and auditors of the Sacheon Airshow Promotion Committee, and about 70 others.

This general meeting was conducted with discussions centered on the settlement and evaluation service report of the ‘2024 Sacheon Airshow’ as well as the service report on establishing expansion plans for the Sacheon Airshow Aerospace Defense Industry Exhibition.

The committee members closely reviewed the status of subsidy expenditures and plans for spending the remaining budget, urging thorough preparation to ensure the smooth operation of the 2026 Sacheon Airshow event and the promotion of the aerospace industry exhibition. The ‘2024 Sacheon Airshow’ was evaluated as more successful than any previous year.

Held for the first time since switching to a biennial schedule, the event took place over four days from October 24 to 27 at Sacheon Airfield, attracting approximately 410,000 visitors, marking the highest attendance in its history.

Additionally, in the comprehensive visitor satisfaction survey considering 18 event evaluation categories, the 2024 airshow received significantly higher scores compared to the 2022 event. In 2022, the score was 5.86 out of 7, while in 2024, it rose to 6.33.

Notably, the Korea Aerospace Defense Industry Export Consultation, held to expand the Sacheon Airshow into an aerospace industry exhibition, was also deemed a meaningful success, with participation from 66 companies and 139 officials, achieving consultation deals worth 45 billion KRW.

However, the pre-registration system, introduced for the first time to enhance event safety and disperse visitors, was pointed out as requiring review and improvement in its practical operation. The actual ratio of visitors who pre-registered and then attended was only 45% (185,000 people) compared to the total visitors.

Meanwhile, the service report on establishing expansion plans for the aerospace defense industry exhibition emphasized the need to build exhibition facilities based on the characteristics of the Gyeongnam region, which accounts for 70% of domestic aviation industry sales, and the environmental advantages of hosting the Aerospace Administration. It also highlighted the necessity to improve regional infrastructure such as transportation and accommodation.

The committee projected that if integration with similar exhibitions in the Gyeongnam area and phased infrastructure development are realized, the competitiveness of the Sacheon Airshow will be sufficiently strengthened.

Mayor Park Dongsik stated, “It is necessary to establish directions that can widely promote the vision and potential of the aerospace industry and improve the organizational system accordingly,” and urged, “Please prepare thoroughly and without any setbacks for the future Sacheon Airshow.”
