The Gwangju City Party of the Democratic Party of Korea evaluated President Yoon Suk-yeol's impeachment as a 'great revolution of the citizens of Gwangju' and promised follow-up efforts at the party level to stabilize the people's livelihood and economy.
On the morning of the 16th, about 40 members of the Democratic Party of Korea's Gwangju City Party, including members of the National Assembly, elected public officials, and key party members, paid tribute at the National May 18 Democratic Cemetery in Unjeong-dong, Buk-gu. During the visit, they bowed in silence at the grave of the late martyr Moon Jae-hak, the real-life model of Dong-ho, the protagonist of Han Kang's novel "The Boy is Coming."
Before the tribute, Chairman Yang wrote in the guestbook, "The citizens of Gwangju protected democracy from the December 3 coup with the blessings of the May 18 spirits. Thank you."
At the tombstone, explanations were given about the late martyr Moon, a high school student who died confronting Chun Doo-hwan's martial law troops, and upon hearing this, Mayor Kang Ki-jung and Chairman Yang Bu-nam repeatedly stroked the tombstone.

After the tribute, the Democratic Party promised party-level efforts following the passage of the impeachment motion against President Yoon Suk-yeol.
In a statement, Chairman Yang said, "Although martial law was declared on the 3rd, with the lifting of martial law and impeachment, we have once again achieved a great citizen revolution following May 1980. The remaining tasks are for the Constitutional Court to dismiss Yoon Suk-yeol and for investigative agencies to arrest and investigate him. The Democratic Party of Korea's Gwangju City Party will do its best to resolve the remaining tasks and revive the collapsed people's livelihood," he emphasized.
