Yangju-si, 8.7 Billion KRW Levied for Second Installment of Vehicle Tax

Gyeonggi Yangju City (Mayor Kang Su-hyun) announced on the 16th that it has imposed and notified 70,608 cases of the second installment of automobile tax for December, totaling 8.7 billion KRW.

Automobile tax is imposed twice a year in June and December. The automobile tax notified this time was imposed on the owners registered in the automobile registration ledger as of December 1, excluding those who pay annually in advance and those exempted or reduced from taxation.

The automobile tax imposed in December this year increased by about 860 million KRW, approximately 11%, compared to last year. This is mainly attributed to the increase in the number of vehicles due to the influx of population into the Okjeong and Hoecheon new towns, which led to an increase in the tax amount.

The payment deadline for the automobile tax is until December 31. Payments can be made by visiting financial institutions and post offices nationwide with the tax notice, or by transfer through the virtual account and local tax revenue account listed on the notice, credit card payment via ARS phone, or various online sites such as WETAX and Giro.

Additionally, even without the tax notice, payments can be made at cash deposit/withdrawal machines (CD/ATM) installed in financial institutions by using a bankbook, cash card, or credit card to check and pay the imposed amount for oneself or others (by searching with the electronic payment number).

A Yangju City official urged, “If the automobile tax payment deadline is missed, a late payment surcharge of 3% of the taxed amount will be imposed, so please make the payment before the deadline.” The official also said, “We are actively promoting through the city website, banners, and electronic billboards so that residents can be informed of the imposed details within the payment deadline, so please refer to these.”

Meanwhile, the city offers a discount on automobile tax if paid annually in advance in January next year. Applications can be made at the Yangju City Hall Taxation Division or online via the WETAX site. Also, when applying for electronic notification and automatic transfer for regular local taxes (registration license tax, automobile tax, property tax, resident tax), a tax deduction of 800 KRW per notice, up to 1,600 KRW, can be received.
