On the 16th, the British BBC reported, "Seven tourists in Fiji were hospitalized on suspicion of alcohol poisoning, with several reported to be in serious condition." It is known that they showed symptoms of nausea, vomiting, and neurological issues shortly after drinking cocktails at a resort bar on Saturday night local time. According to local media reports, four of the seven are Australians aged between 18 and 56, one is American, and the remaining two are also foreigners.

The tourists in Fiji were staying at the 5-star Warwick Fiji Resort on the Coral Coast. Initially, they were transported to Sigatoka Hospital and later transferred to Lautoka Hospital. Fiji's health authorities and police are conducting related investigations. The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) advised tourists to "be cautious of the potential risks of alcohol and methanol poisoning from alcoholic beverages consumed in Fiji."

Earlier, on the 12th, six foreign tourists died in Laos after drinking liquor suspected to be mixed with methanol.
