Next Year's Agricultural Direct Payments 647.6 Billion Won... 73.1 Billion Won Increase from This Year
Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province will pay a total of 574.5 billion KRW within the year for 12 agricultural direct payment projects, including the basic public interest direct payment.
According to the province on the 16th, the farmers' public interest allowance was paid in regional currency at 600,000 KRW per household in September, and the basic public interest direct payment, which is paid in cash to individual farmers' accounts sequentially from this day onward after the farming season is completed, will be disbursed.
Earlier this year, each city, county, town, and neighborhood operated an application period for each direct payment project. Based on the submitted applications, the eligibility of farmers was verified and compliance inspections were conducted to finalize the list of recipients.
Since the introduction of the public interest direct payment system in 2020, the scale of agricultural direct payments has increased from 505.9 billion KRW in 2020 to 574.5 billion KRW in 2024, an increase of 68.6 billion KRW. The average payment per household rose by 961,000 KRW from 5.422 million KRW in 2020 to 6.383 million KRW in 2024.
Next year, the payment rate for the basic public interest direct payment will be increased by 5%, the payment rate for paddy fields under the eco-friendly agricultural direct payment will rise from 700,000 KRW to 950,000 KRW, the payment for wheat under the strategic crop direct payment will increase from 500,000 KRW to 1,000,000 KRW, and the summer forage payment will be raised from 4.3 million KRW to 5 million KRW.
The province plans to support 647.6 billion KRW, an increase of 73.1 billion KRW compared to this year, actively promoting the expansion of public interest activities and the improvement of farmers' income.
Choi Jae-yong, Director of the Agricultural Life and Livestock Industry Bureau of the province, said, “We will continue to significantly expand the scale of agricultural direct payments, enhancing the public functions of agriculture and rural areas by complying with environmental protection requirements amid the climate crisis faced by rural areas, and take the lead in increasing farmers' income.”
