Ulsan City to Hold 'Ulsan Myeongjang Commemoration Ceremony' This Year

Ulsan Master Craftsmen, Korea Master Craftsmen, and National Quality Master Craftsmen Certificate Award Ceremony... Hall of Masters Induction Ceremony Also Held

Ulsan City will hold the ‘2024 Ulsan Master Craftsman Commemoration Ceremony’ at 3 p.m. on the 16th in the lobby on the 2nd floor of the Ulsan Museum.


This ceremony is organized to honor the Ulsan City Masters, Korea Masters, and National Quality Masters and to inform citizens of their contributions.


About 50 people, including Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom, Acting Chairman of the Ulsan City Council Kim Jong-seop, businesspeople, and master craftsmen selectees, will attend the ceremony.


The event will proceed with the awarding of certificates to Ulsan City Masters and the induction of Korea Masters and National Quality Masters into the Hall of Masters.


Every year, Ulsan City selects individuals who possess the highest level of skilled technology and have greatly contributed to the development of local skilled technology and the improvement of the status of skilled technicians as Ulsan City Masters.


This year, Team Leader Go Min-cheol (HD Hyundai Heavy Industries) in the sheet metal and pipe fitting field and Employee Lee Chang-ho (Jeongjin ENG) in the welding field were selected.


Master Go Min-cheol is a holder of core technology utilizing 3D laser trackers and has contributed to industrial development through numerous patents and design registrations.


Master Lee Chang-ho achieved cost reduction through quality improvement activities of semi-automatic auto carriage and contributed to the development of welding technology with multiple patents, utility models, and design registrations.


They will be awarded master certificates, nameplates, and a technology incentive of 10 million KRW.


The ‘Korea Master,’ regarded as the highest honor for skilled technicians, is selected annually by the Minister of Employment and Labor from those recommended by city and provincial governors who have worked in industrial sites for more than 15 years and possess the highest level of skilled technology.


This year, a total of 13 people (13 fields) nationwide were selected, including two from Ulsan: Foreman Jeon Seong-guk (HD Hyundai Construction Equipment) and CEO Lee Seok-won (Langcontre Bakery).


Foreman Jeon Seong-guk was selected as a Korea Master in the mechanical maintenance field for his success in domestic development of large forklifts and being chosen as the company-wide suggestion king.


CEO Lee Seok-won was selected as a Korea Master in the bakery and confectionery field for his 27 years of work in the field, development of products using domestic agricultural products, and contributions to revitalizing the local economy through his bakery.


The National Quality Master is selected annually by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy from exemplary workers who have worked in industrial sites for more than 15 years and achieved quality innovation results with craftsmanship spirit.


In Ulsan, Quality Control Team Leader Sung Yoon-hwan of Korea East-West Power Co., Ltd. Ulsan Power Headquarters was selected.


Team Leader Sung Yoon-hwan was selected as the National Quality Master in the electrical field at the 50th National Quality Management Competition for his contributions to stable power supply through quality management and maintenance of power generation facilities.


On this day, Ulsan City will honor the Korea Masters and National Quality Masters by registering nameplates engraved with their names, affiliations, and specialties in the Hall of Masters installed on the 2nd floor of the Ulsan Museum.


Also, the nameplates of Ulsan City Masters will be registered in the Hall of Honor on the 2nd floor of the Workers’ Welfare Center and made available to the public.


Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom said, “Those selected as masters today are the core driving force of growth for Ulsan and Korea and precious assets to be passed on to future generations. As valuable assets of Ulsan, we will do our best to honor and support the masters. In the rapidly changing era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, we expect the masters to play a leading role in driving technological development and innovation.”


Since 2015, Ulsan City has produced a total of 234 masters (40 Ulsan City Masters, 52 Korea Masters, and 142 National Quality Masters), including this year’s 10th Ulsan City Masters, honoring technicians who have led regional development with skilled technology and creative ideas.
