The 'Communication Meeting with Dong Residents' is an event where the mayor personally visits the dong (neighborhood), the frontline administrative unit, to listen to residents' grievances and share major city policies. It has been held annually since Mayor Lee Dong-hwan took office to promote regional development and strengthen communication with citizens. Since July, the mayor has been touring 38 dongs to continue his communication efforts with residents.
Mayor Lee Jong-hwan mentioned that this year the city was designated as a ‘Venture Business Promotion Zone’ and an ‘Education Development Special Zone Pilot Area,’ providing Goyang City, which had been struggling with overlapping regulations, a valuable opportunity to offer quality jobs and education. He explained that companies moving into the Venture Business Promotion Zone will be exempt from development charges and receive up to a 50% reduction in property tax and acquisition tax.
Furthermore, Mayor Lee emphasized that if the ongoing project to designate an Economic Free Zone is successfully completed, the synergy between the two projects will be maximized, and all efforts will be mobilized to ensure residents can feel tangible benefits.
During the meeting, various resident proposals were received, including ▲measures to resolve frequent flooding areas around Daejang-dong and Naegok-dong ▲creation of Yeongjusan Observatory in Naegok-dong ▲road expansion of Sinpyeong-gil in Sinpyeong-dong ▲pruning and environmental maintenance of Ssamsi Park ▲establishment and designated operation of bicycle-only lanes following the opening of GTX ▲measures for wastewater purification and flood prevention in Daehwa Stream. The city plans to thoroughly review these issues and resolve them promptly.
Goyang Special City plans to visit the remaining six dongs from the 16th to the 26th of this month to complete the 2024 ‘Communication Meetings with Residents’ schedule.
