A travel YouTuber with 460,000 subscribers uploaded a travel video and was criticized with comments like “The country is a mess, you have no sense.” In response, the YouTuber was baffled, asking, “What’s wrong?”

On the YouTube channel ‘Kimchi wa Baguette,’ run by a Korean husband and his French wife, a video titled “Telling my French wife she’s going to ride a light aircraft but actually making her try skydiving” was posted on the 13th. In the video, the couple traveled to Cairns in northeastern Australia and experienced skydiving together.

However, a netizen who saw the video mentioned the ‘December 12-3 Emergency Martial Law Incident’ and commented, “You have no sense. The country is a mess, so while work is good, this is too much,” adding, “I like you as a YouTuber, so this makes me even more annoyed. Please be more cautious.”

The YouTuber replied, “Shouldn’t we work more when the country is going through hard times? What exactly is wrong?” The netizen then responded, “You probably don’t know what a rebellion is. You probably won’t be able to continue YouTube either. I have supported you from the beginning, but I’m disappointed,” and added, “If South Korea didn’t exist, who and where would you be? The country is not just in danger now; the foundation and democracy of the country are at risk,” reiterating their point.

The YouTuber then explained, “You probably don’t know how a 20-minute YouTube video is made. The 20-minute video you watched might look like us just laughing and chatting, but it actually took five full days to make this one video,” adding, “We put a lot of thought and effort into making each video.”

They also said, “Our main job is to create short 20-minute videos that bring laughter to people who are tired from busy days and have many worries in life,” and “That’s why, even when we are exhausted, we have never missed a scheduled upload in two years.” The YouTuber added, “This is our livelihood, and isn’t it right to work even harder and earn money when the country is struggling? We worry about the country more than you do, work hard, pay taxes diligently, and try to contribute to the country, so there’s no need to worry.”

In response to this exchange, netizens commented, “Are you saying a travel YouTuber shouldn’t work?” “This is like online martial law,” “For them, this is their livelihood,” “You should work even harder when the country is struggling. That’s true,” “I wonder if the critic has quit working and is resting,” “They do need to be more cautious,” “Given the current situation,” and “Everyone seems to have become too sensitive these days.”
