Three Consecutive Years of Awards in Digital Healthcare through Leading Non-Face-to-Face Health Management Initiatives
Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Ilpyeong Lee) won the Grand Prize in the ‘AI · IoT-based Senior Health Management Project’ category at the 2024 Visiting Health Care Project Performance Sharing Conference held on the 13th at Seoul City Hall Seosomun Building.
The Dongdaemun-gu Public Health Center was honored with this award in recognition of its contribution to improving the health behaviors of participants through various promotional strategies, customized health classes and content provision, and active face-to-face and non-face-to-face health management services including case management for frail seniors.
The ‘AI · IoT-based Senior Health Management Project’ started as a pilot project in April 2021 and has involved 1,602 seniors aged 65 and over in Dongdaemun-gu to date. This project operates by helping seniors strengthen their self-health management capabilities using the ‘Oneul Health’ mobile app and smart devices (three types including wrist activity trackers), while professional personnel such as nurses, nutritionists, and exercise specialists provide customized health management services.
Additionally, 150 seniors with low-spec smartphones or no smartphones were provided with ‘AI speakers’ to enable not only health monitoring but also emotional support and emergency response.
In 2022, Dongdaemun-gu won the Grand Prize in the ‘AI · IoT-based Senior Health Management Project’ category at the Digital Healthcare Performance Competition hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Social Security Information Service. In 2023, it became the first public health center nationwide to promote robot rehabilitation services for the disabled, winning the ‘Ministry of Health and Welfare Excellence Award for Disabled Health Management Project’ and the ‘Public Procurement Service Innovation Competition Encouragement Award.’
Including this award, Dongdaemun-gu has achieved the remarkable feat of winning awards for three consecutive years in the public digital healthcare field.
Ilpyeong Lee, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, “I am very pleased and feel a great responsibility to have won awards for three consecutive years in the digital healthcare field. This achievement is the result of the district’s continuous efforts to promote seniors’ health and the utilization of digital technology. We will continue to implement various policies so that seniors can live healthy and happy lives in Dongdaemun-gu.”
