Dedicated MICE Industry Operation Team... Foundation Establishment Accelerates Momentum

Pohang City is accelerating the establishment of the “Pohang International Exhibition & Convention Center Foundation” to promote the local MICE industry.

The city is publicly recruiting a total of nine executives, including the CEO, directors, and auditors, through the Executive Recommendation Committee of the Pohang International Exhibition & Convention Center Foundation.

The Executive Recommendation Committee of the Pohang International Exhibition & Convention Center Foundation resolved to open the recruitment of executives at its meeting on the 13th.

The recruitment targets are one CEO, seven non-standing directors, and one non-standing auditor. The foundation’s CEO is a full-time director position responsible for overseeing the foundation’s finances and administration and has the authority to direct and supervise the affiliated staff.

Non-standing directors have the right to deliberate and decide on the foundation’s work and projects through the board of directors and serve as advisors on foundation management, while the non-standing auditor performs auditing duties on the foundation’s accounting and operational tasks.

The public announcement period for executive recruitment is from December 13 to December 30, and the document submission period is from December 18 to December 30. Applications can be submitted by visiting the MICE Industry Division at Pohang City Hall in person or by registered mail or email, including documents such as the application form and self-introduction letter.

The Executive Recommendation Committee stated, “We expect many experts to participate in this open recruitment to contribute to the early establishment of the convention center and the foundation of the local MICE industry, and we hope for the interest and applications of talented individuals with professionalism and capabilities to lead the foundation.”

The Pohang International Exhibition & Convention Center Foundation will serve as a specialized institution for fostering the local MICE industry and will concurrently operate the Pohang International Exhibition & Convention Center (POEX), which began construction last July.

A Pohang city official said, “With the foundation established before the completion of the convention center, we expect more momentum in discovering and attracting international MICE events, supporting exhibition hosting, and nurturing local MICE talent.”

The Pohang International Exhibition & Convention Center will be built on the site of the former U.S. military base Camp Liberty in Jangseong-dong, Buk-gu, with one basement floor and five above-ground floors, totaling a gross floor area of 63,818㎡. It will include a convention hall with a capacity of about 2,000 people, an exhibition hall of 7,183㎡, a convention hall of 2,128㎡, 11 medium and small conference rooms, citizen rest areas, commercial and office facilities, and a rooftop.

Once completed by the end of 2026, the convention center is expected to become a regional landmark and a core hub of the MICE industry.
