‘7th Univer+City University and City Win-Win Development Forum’ Held
Pohang, Ulsan, Gyeongju Regional Universities Discuss Innovative Plans for Regional Economic Development
The ‘7th Univer+City Forum for the Mutual Development of Universities and Cities,’ where universities and local governments in the Pohang, Ulsan, and Gyeongju regions collaborate to discuss regional economic development and innovation strategies, was held on the 13th at the Kim Young-gil Grace School Library of Handong University in Pohang.

‘Univer+City’ is a compound word combining ‘University’ and ‘City,’ signifying the collaboration of industry, academia, and government to seek regional development and future innovation.
At this forum, about 100 participants including officials from the Haeoreum Alliance local governments, representatives and students from six universities?Handong University, POSTECH, UNIST, Ulsan University, Dongguk University, and Uiduk University?gathered to deeply discuss the theme ‘Creating Opportunities in the Era of Great Transformation,’ focusing on industrial, educational, and community innovation strategies in the Haeoreum Alliance region.
The forum began with a keynote speech by Choi Do-sung, president of Handong University, who presented on ‘The Future Prospects of University Education and the Challenges of Glocal Universities,’ outlining the direction universities should take amid changes in the future educational environment.
In the subsequent presentations, Professor Lee Myung-in of UNIST proposed regional strategies to respond to the climate crisis in the southeastern region under the theme ‘Climate Crisis and Challenges in the Southeastern Region,’ while Professor Lee Jae-young of Handong University emphasized the role of universities and cities for sustainable growth in his presentation titled ‘The Future and Challenges of Universities for Smart Green Growth.’
Mayor Lee Kang-deok stated, “I hope this forum will serve as an opportunity not only for academic exchange but also for closer cooperation between cities and universities within the Haeoreum Alliance region to overcome the crisis of regional extinction and to lead industrial innovation.”
