"Don't Give Up or Waver Like During Park Geun-hye's Time"
"The People Wouldn't Elect a Criminal as President," Targeting Lee Jae-myung
Hong Jun-pyo, the mayor of Daegu, emphasized the need to manage the impeachment political situation after the National Assembly passed the second impeachment motion against President Yoon Seok-yeol, stating, "We will not be caught off guard like Park Geun-hye."
On the 15th, Mayor Hong wrote on his Facebook, "Let's leave the Constitutional Court (Constitutional Court) judgment and investigation matters to President Yoon," and stressed, "We must focus our efforts on party organization and managing the impeachment political situation." The "we" mentioned by Mayor Hong is interpreted as the People Power Party.
He added, "We have experienced Park Geun-hye's impeachment. We must not give up or be confused like back then," and targeted Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, saying, "No matter what, would our people elect a criminal as president? Let's stay strong."
The impeachment motion against President Yoon was passed on the afternoon of the 14th during the plenary session, with all 300 members present out of 300 total members. The vote was 204 in favor, 85 against, 3 abstentions, and 8 invalid votes. Of the 204 votes in favor, excluding 192 from the opposition parties, it appears that 12 votes in favor came from the People Power Party, which maintained a party stance against the motion. Abstentions and invalid votes also seem to have come from the People Power Party.
In another post, Mayor Hong targeted the 12 "defector votes," calling them "Han Dong-hoon and lemmings who volunteered as Lee Jae-myung's second squad," and said, "Those 12 votes can be roughly guessed within the political circles." He argued that while proportional representatives can be made invisible, local constituency lawmakers who voted in favor should be expelled, calling for strong internal party measures against those who supported the impeachment motion.
Regarding Han Dong-hoon, the leader of the People Power Party, and his close associates, he strongly criticized, saying, "Wasn't mutual destruction the goal? Since the impeachment motion has been passed as you wished, just disappear," and added, "If you keep resisting, it will only make things uglier and you will be dragged out. Take the lemmings with you. Even if you stay in this party, you are nothing but Democratic Party spies."
