The Emergency Committee of the Korean Medical Association (KMA) stated on the 14th in a press release, "We welcome the passage of the impeachment motion against President Yoon Seok-yeol," adding, "(President Yoon) has pushed forward the baseless 'increase in medical school quotas' solely for his own political gain, demonized doctors who raised concerns, and waged war against doctors by saying 'If only six months pass, we will win' and 'We will punish residents."
They further urged the political circles to "actively cooperate to stop the medical manipulation and allow the healthcare system to normalize," emphasizing that "to prevent the collapse of medical education, the admission of new medical students in 2025 must also be immediately suspended."
Professor organizations also expressed their welcome and stressed the necessity of normalizing medical education. The Emergency Committee of the National Medical School Professors (Jeon-ui-bi) said, "We welcome the passage of the impeachment motion against the dictator Yoon Seok-yeol," calling it "a great victory for the respected people and democracy of our country."
They added, "Medical schools and training hospitals are still oppressed by Yoon Seok-yeol's tyranny, and the situation continues to worsen," appealing, "Now, please pay attention to the medical oppression and medical school oppression caused by Yoon Seok-yeol."
The National Medical School Professors Association (Jeon-ui-gyo-hyeop) also hailed it as "a day of victory for democracy," stating, "We must reverse the anti-democratic policies carried out based on superstitious beliefs without scientific evidence."
The Emergency Committee of Seoul National University College of Medicine and Seoul National University Hospital professors immediately issued a statement saying, "We welcome this rightful decision that upholds the principles of democracy." The committee pointed out, "The government, which pushed through oppressive policies under the guise of medical reform as if under martial law, has already lost its momentum," expressing concern that "patients and the public will continue to suffer in the medical field, which has been ruined and left in ruins by government policies."
They also urged, "Stop causing further harm and halt the flawed medical reform policies now," and added, "We hope the government will listen sufficiently to voices from the field and proceed in the right direction through social consensus."
