Gyeonggi Assembly Democratic Party: "With the People Until the Day Yoon Seok-yeol Steps Down"

The Democratic Party of Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly evaluated the passage of the National Assembly's impeachment motion against President Yoon Seok-yeol on the 14th as "a meaningful day that marks another milestone in the democratic history of the Republic of Korea."

On the same day, the Democratic Party of Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly issued a statement saying, "The National Assembly has passed the 'Yoon Seok-yeol impeachment motion,'" and added, "The National Assembly responded to the passionate outcry of the people to revive democracy and the constitutional order."

They continued, "The 14th, the day the impeachment motion was passed, became a meaningful day that marked another milestone in the history of democracy in the Republic of Korea," emphasizing, "It showed that justice in the Republic of Korea is alive and that the people can stand up to and overcome immense power."

However, they stated, "The fight is just beginning," urging, "The Constitutional Court should not hesitate to accept the impeachment motion and proceed swiftly to minimize confusion caused by the suspension of the president's duties."

They also asserted, "Above all, the punishment of Yoon Seok-yeol, whose judgment by the people and history has concluded, must be ensured," and claimed, "The best way is for President Yoon Seok-yeol to apologize to the people and history for his acts of rebellion that trampled on democracy and the constitutional order, even before the Constitutional Court's ruling, and to step down as soon as possible."

Furthermore, they added, "He must also accept punishment according to the investigation results," and stated, "To prevent the repetition of unhappy history in the Republic of Korea, those who actively participated in or were involved in this act of rebellion must be punished strictly and severely."

In addition, they promised, "The Democratic Party of Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly will not lower its flag even for a moment after the passage of the impeachment motion in the National Assembly," and pledged, "We will stand at the forefront without stopping until the day Yoon Seok-yeol steps down, standing together with the people."
