'Suspended' Yoon's Security Maintained as Before
With the impeachment motion against President Yoon Suk-yeol passed at the National Assembly plenary session on the 14th, the Presidential Security Service announced that it will undertake the security duties for Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, who will serve as the acting president.
On the afternoon of the same day, the Presidential Security Service stated in a press release, "Following the passage of the impeachment motion against President Yoon Suk-yeol by the National Assembly, a dedicated security team has been formed to carry out security duties for Acting President Han Duck-soo in accordance with relevant laws."
It further explained, "Security for Acting President Han Duck-soo will be conducted on par with that of the president and will cover both the acting president and his spouse."
The Security Service added, "The dedicated security team for Acting President Han Duck-soo will coordinate with the Prime Minister's Office to establish specific security measures and commence its duties," and "Meanwhile, security for President Yoon will continue as before regardless of the suspension of his duties, in accordance with relevant laws."
The impeachment motion against President Yoon was passed at the National Assembly plenary session that afternoon with 204 votes in favor, 85 against, 3 abstentions, and 8 invalid votes, out of 300 members present.
Once President Yoon receives the 'Impeachment Resolution' from the National Assembly, his presidential duties will be immediately suspended, and Prime Minister Han Duck-soo will assume the role of acting president.
