Singer Lee Seunghwan: "I Followed the Conservative Elite Path... How Desperate Was I to Perform at the Impeachment Stage"

On the 13th, took the stage at the impeachment candlelight vigil and sang
"Hope it ends unconditionally tomorrow... I don't want to hold any more rallies"

Singer Lee Seunghwan drew attention by stating on stage at an impeachment rally, "I am someone who followed the conservative elite course."

On the afternoon of the 13th, Lee took the stage at the impeachment candlelight cultural event held in front of the National Assembly building in Yeouido, Seoul.

As he had previously announced on his social media (SNS), Lee performed three of his hit songs?“Sesange Ppuryeojin Sarangmankeum” (As Much as the Love Spread in the World), “Saranghanayo” (Do You Love?), and “Dunk Shoot”?with altered lyrics.

After finishing his performance, Lee said, “I am a professional singer for impeachment rallies. I stood at the 2016 Park Geun-hye resignation rallies, among others,” adding, “I thought I would never take the stage at such rallies again, but I came here now, leading my old body and with difficulty moving, which I deeply regret.”

He continued, “Nevertheless, the reason I am standing on this stage again is that among people around my age, those who have their wits about them think that how you live is more important than what you become.”

He emphasized, “I hope for a world where we no longer have to stand on such rally stages or donate hard-earned money.”

Lee expressed surprise after watching President Yoon Seok-yeol’s statement on the morning of the 12th, saying, “People misunderstand me as a communist, but I was born in Busan and am someone who followed the conservative elite course from the Gangnam 8 school districts.”

He added, “If someone like me has come to this point, think about how serious it is. I am for capitalism and democracy. I hope this ends unconditionally tomorrow. I no longer want to participate in rallies.”

Lee performed on stage that day without receiving a guarantee fee and had previously supported the candlelight rally organizers by donating 12.13 million won.

The second vote on the National Assembly’s impeachment motion related to President Yoon’s declaration and lifting of martial law will take place on the 14th. On that day, candlelight rallies urging impeachment are also scheduled to be held nationwide, including in front of the National Assembly building in Yeouido.
