Korean Broadcasting Writers Association Condemns Yoon and Calls for Impeachment
"There Is Only One Ending for This Character"
The Korea Broadcasting Writers Association (Chairman Jeong Jae-hong) issued a statement calling for the impeachment of President Yoon Seok-yeol.
On the 13th, the Korea Broadcasting Writers Association released a statement titled "Impeach and Arrest Yoon Seok-yeol, the Chief Instigator of Rebellion, for Investigation and Punishment."
The statement included the names of several broadcast writers such as Park Hae-young of the drama My Liberation Notes, Kang Eun-kyung of Gyeongseong Creature, Kim Eun-sook of The Glory, Park Jae-beom of Hot Blooded Priest, Kim Yi-young of Celebrity, and Lee Woo-jung of the Reply Series. Variety show writers like Kang Sook-kyung of Physical 100 and Mo Eun-seol of Black and White Chef also participated.
The association expressed that regarding the emergency martial law declared by President Yoon on the 3rd, "We thought these were relics of the past," and added, "Broadcast writers were also angered and shaken by that bizarre experience."
They further described the phrase in Article 3 of the Martial Law Command's proclamation, "All media and publications are subject to the control of the Martial Law Command," as "a vivid shock of having our heads trampled by military boots."
They criticized, saying, "The 'premonition of martial law' has long invaded the broadcasting field, which is the frontline of reality and most connected to the times," and "The so-called 'K-Culture,' which has elevated Korea's status and national dignity worldwide, on the 3rd momentarily threw national pride and dignity to the ground and shook the status and achievements of K-content to their roots, which goes without saying."
Earlier, the association had strongly condemned President Yoon's national address the previous day, stating, "He has not yet awakened from the delusion of trampling the National Assembly, the hall of public opinion." They emphasized, "There is only one ending for the protagonist of such a 'mad character.' Impeach, arrest, investigate, and punish Yoon Seok-yeol immediately."
Chairman Jeong stated, "This emergency martial law incident has shaken the foundation of K-dramas, variety shows, and content that broadcast writers have devoted decades to," and "Yoon Seok-yeol, the chief instigator of rebellion, must be immediately arrested and punished."
