Members of the Buk-gu Council in Gwangju called on the People Power Party to participate in the vote for the impeachment of President Yoon Seok-yeol.
On the afternoon of the 13th, Democratic Party, Progressive Party, and independent council members held a press conference in front of the Buk-gu Office square, stating, "The emergency martial law is a 'rebellion act' marked by unconstitutionality and illegality," and defined it as "a clear anti-state crime committed by the president, who is supposed to protect the people, by nullifying the constitution and the National Assembly to extend his own power."
They said, "The citizens of Gwangju gather every evening at the May 18 Democratic Square, holding candles and shouting 'Impeach the chief instigator of the rebellion, Yoon Seok-yeol,' and demanding his immediate arrest," emphasizing, "In accordance with the orders of the residents who remember the May 18 Democratic Movement, impeach and arrest Yoon Seok-yeol immediately."
They also urged, "Members of the People Power Party must follow the will of the people and vote 'in favor' in the impeachment vote scheduled at the National Assembly at 5 p.m. tomorrow."
