Ulsan Office of Education to Expand Voice Service Support for Students with Migration Backgrounds

Support for 9 Schools with Multicultural Students Enrolled Since September This Year

The Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Cheon Chang-su) is expanding voice service support to help multicultural students with limited Korean proficiency adapt to school life.

Starting from September this year, the voice service software "VoiceEye" will be provided free of charge to nine schools (six elementary schools and three middle schools) where 37 multicultural students enrolled after September are attending.

The voice service generates information patterns (QR codes) on school-issued newsletters and other communications, allowing students and parents to scan them with a smartphone app and listen to the content converted into multiple languages. This service helps eliminate information gaps caused by language barriers and supports smooth communication with parents.

Since last year, the Ulsan Office of Education has been the first in the nation to introduce "VoiceEye," utilizing it for various educational materials aimed at vulnerable groups such as multicultural families, the visually impaired, and the elderly.

In particular, last year, when Afghan parents at Seobu Elementary School faced difficulties due to the suspension of interpretation support, the company behind the voice service "VoiceEye" gained attention by providing the service free of charge.

This year, the Ulsan Office of Education has determined that students from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Nepal, and other countries with limited Korean proficiency need this service and decided to support it free of charge. The goal is to resolve communication difficulties between schools and students that hinder school life and to help students thrive in school life in Ulsan.

On the 12th, the Ulsan Office of Education plans to hold a license handover ceremony and provide user training for teachers in charge at the supported schools in the education office's computer room, officially starting the service operation.

Superintendent Cheon Chang-su stated, “To ensure all students enjoy equal educational opportunities, we will especially focus on tailored educational support for students from migrant backgrounds and socially disadvantaged groups.”
