Relocation of Electric Vehicle Charging Facilities, Demonstration Held
Expansion of Portable Suffocation Fire Caps and Sprinklers
Yongsan-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Park Hee-young) announced on the 13th that it has newly established an electric vehicle fire response system at the Comprehensive Administrative Town's annex parking lot and held a demonstration event the day before.

The new measures prepared by the district include relocating electric vehicle charging facilities, installing portable sealed suffocation fire extinguishing caps, installing thermal imaging cameras, expanding sprinklers in electric vehicle charging zones, and establishing an artificial intelligence (AI) fire detection system.
To respond quickly to electric vehicle fires, the district invested approximately 183.92 million KRW from the disaster management fund to prepare a comprehensive plan.
The existing seven electric vehicle charging facilities (2 rapid chargers, 5 slow chargers) located on the 5th basement floor were relocated to the 3rd basement floor, closer to the vehicle entrance and exit road (2nd basement floor). Additionally, all ten outlet-type chargers on the 4th and 5th basement floors are planned to be moved to the 2nd and 3rd basement floors.
The portable sealed suffocation fire extinguishing caps were installed on five electric vehicle charging spots on the 3rd basement floor, marking the first installation of such devices in an annex parking lot of a local government district nationwide. This suppression device automatically covers the fire vehicle within 15 seconds of fire detection to block the spread of flames. It seals the vehicle and supplies extinguishing water to suppress even internal battery fires.
The existing three security cameras were reinforced with five thermal imaging cameras equipped with heat and high-temperature detection alarm functions. The sprinklers in the charging zones, previously installed at one every 2 meters, were increased to two. An AI fire detection system was also installed so that smoke or flames in the electric vehicle zone can be immediately confirmed at the building's disaster prevention center.
Next year, environmental improvement work is also planned for electric vehicle charging zones in public parking lots within the district.
District Mayor Park Hee-young stated, “Through these measures, we have proactively strengthened our response capabilities to electric vehicle fires,” and added, “We will do our best to implement practical measures to minimize damage in case of any unexpected electric vehicle fire.”
