Exploring Ways to Revitalize the Local Economy by Linking Traditional Markets and Tourism Resources

The 'Traditional Market Revitalization Research Group,' a research organization of the Taean County Council in Chungnam, held a final report meeting on June 12 regarding the policy research service for revitalizing traditional markets in Taean County.
This meeting was organized to share research results for the sustainable development of Taean County's traditional markets and to strengthen cooperation with the local community and related organizations. Attendees included Research Group President Park Seonui, Secretary Kim Jingwon, Council Member Kim Youngin, Hwang Yeongyeong, Director of Daehan Strategy Research Institute, which conducted the research, as well as officials from the Taean County Economic Promotion Division.
In addition, Wang Yunheung, President of the Eastern Market Merchants Association, Kim Jinseop, President of the Western Market Merchants Association, and Jo Eunsang, Chairman of the Taean Oiljang Promotion Committee, along with other local traditional market stakeholders, participated and shared diverse opinions.
This research project focused on thoroughly analyzing the current status of Taean County's traditional markets and benchmarking successful domestic and international cases to propose policies and strategies suitable for the county to revitalize its traditional markets.
In particular, a survey of 300 residents living outside the county was conducted to collect practical and in-depth data to be reflected in policy formulation.
Furthermore, concrete measures were discussed to develop traditional markets beyond simple commercial spaces into sustainable growth models that connect the local economy with the tourism industry.
President Park Seonui stated, "The research group has focused on presenting feasible policies so that traditional markets can become the center of the local economy and culture," and added, "We hope that through continuous research and cooperation, traditional markets will regain vitality and become spaces loved by both local residents and tourists."
