On the 12th, during the National Assembly plenary session where the special investigation laws for President Yoon Seok-yeol's December 3 emergency martial law incident and for First Lady Kim Geon-hee were passed side by side, a scene presumed to show comedian Jung Chan-woo sending a supportive text message to People Power Party lawmaker Jeong Dong-man attracted attention. Lawmaker Jeong voted against both special investigation laws.
iNews24 captured and reported a scene at the National Assembly plenary session where Lawmaker Jeong was checking text messages on his mobile phone. The photo showed a message received on Jeong’s phone screen from a contact labeled "JungChanwooComedianCultwo" saying, "Brother, stay strong. Always supporting you." The message was received at 12:27 PM that day.
At the plenary session that day, the "Special Prosecutor Appointment Act for the Investigation of the Unconstitutional Emergency Martial Law Declaration and Related Acts of Treason by the Yoon Seok-yeol Government (General Treason Special Prosecutor Act)" was passed with 195 votes in favor, 86 against, and 2 abstentions out of 283 members present. Additionally, the "Special Prosecutor Act for First Lady Kim Geon-hee" was passed with 195 votes in favor, 85 against, and 2 abstentions out of 282 members present. Although the People Power Party set a party line opposing both special investigations and participated in the vote, the bills passed due to some defections.
Lawmaker Jeong Dong-man voted against both special investigation laws. He had also abstained from the vote on the impeachment motion against President Yoon Seok-yeol held on the 7th.
Jung Chan-woo stepped down from all programs including the "Cultwo Show" in April 2018 due to health reasons such as panic disorder and has since suspended his broadcasting activities. After a photo of him attending broadcaster Lee Seon-jeong’s birthday party was released in 2019, he remained out of the public eye. In May, he became embroiled in controversy after being suspected of police investigation as a celebrity who accompanied singer Kim Ho-joong, who was on trial for a drunk hit-and-run, at a drinking party.
Regarding this, Kim Ho-joong’s agency, Saenggak Entertainment, officially stated, "It is true that Jung Chan-woo accompanied the screen golf outing on the day of Kim Ho-joong’s incident, but he did not join the subsequent dinner or the entertainment bar and returned home. He also testified to the same effect during the police investigation."
