Kim Kyung-soo Visits Former President Moon... "Moon Shows Human Regret Toward Cho Kuk"

People Once Again on the Cold Asphalt... Always Feeling Sorry

Former President Moon Jae-in expressed his thoughts on the recent emergency martial law situation and former Representative Cho Guk of the Cho Guk Innovation Party during a meeting with former Gyeongnam Governor Kim Kyung-soo.

On the 12th, former Gyeongnam Governor Kim Kyung-soo visited former President Moon at Pyeongsan Village and said, "As a politician, I always feel sorry and apologetic to the people who are once again bearing the burden of hardship to protect Korea's democracy."

At the meeting, former President Moon reportedly said, "I always feel sorry that the people are suffering hardships again on the cold asphalt during the harsh winter." He added, "The unconstitutional rebellion is unforgivable," and said, "As someone responsible for the previous government, the current situation has arisen because we failed to continuously develop democracy."

During the meeting, former President Moon also mentioned former Representative Cho Guk of the Cho Guk Innovation Party, who was sentenced to two years in prison by the Supreme Court on charges including his daughter's college admission fraud. Cho previously served as the Senior Secretary for Civil Affairs at the Blue House and as Minister of Justice during the Moon Jae-in administration. Former President Moon said, "I conveyed my condolences to former Representative Cho by phone last night." He also expressed both regret and a personal apology toward Cho.

Former Governor Kim said, "Not only former Representative Cho Guk but also former President Moon Jae-in, Representative Lee Jae-myung, and officials from the previous government are subject to indiscriminate investigations by the prosecution, which I criticize as an abuse of prosecutorial power. They will surely face the stern judgment of the people."

Meanwhile, on the same day in the morning, former Governor Kim visited Bongha Village in Gyeongnam to pay respects at the late former President Roh Moo-hyun’s grave and met with Mrs. Kwon Yang-sook. Kim’s side stated, "They had a conversation over tea, exchanging health and well-being greetings." Kim, who was studying in Germany, canceled all his schedules and returned early after President Yoon Seok-youl declared emergency martial law on the 3rd. Considered a leading candidate within his party for the next presidential race, he appears to be gearing up for active political moves ahead of the impeachment vote against President Yoon in the National Assembly on the 14th.
