Han Dong-hoon, Ethics Committee Convened After Yoon's Emergency Address
On the 12th, Yoon Sang-hyun, a member of the People Power Party, opposed Han Dong-hoon, the party leader, convening the Ethics Committee to discuss the expulsion and dismissal of President Yoon Seok-yeol. He insisted that internal party opinions should be gathered first.
On the same day, Yoon criticized Han's decision to refer President Yoon to the Ethics Committee in a post titled "An Ethics Committee Meeting in the Middle of the Night?" on social media.
He said, "Under Han's orders, an Ethics Committee meeting is being held in the middle of the night to expel and dismiss the president," and questioned, "Why are you doing this without going through the process of gathering opinions from party members and lawmakers?"
Yoon asked, "How can we expel and dismiss the president we produced ourselves?" and opposed, "By what authority is Han pushing for the president's expulsion and dismissal?"
He also said, "If the party Han refers to is not himself alone, he should gather opinions from the party caucus, the party supreme council, and party members even now."
Han urgently ordered the convening of the party Ethics Committee to expel and dismiss President Yoon immediately after the president's surprise public address that day. At the party caucus meeting held for the floor leader election, he said, "It was practically a confession of treason," and added, "I propose that we support impeachment as the party's official stance."
The People Power Party Ethics Committee will convene at 10 p.m. that night.
