Additionally, the ITX-Maeum running between Bujeon Station and Gangneung Station is expected to stop at Taehwagang Station, Namchang Station, and Buk-Ulsan Station starting January 1.

Until now, Ulsan City, together with political circles, has continuously requested the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Korea Railroad Corporation to have KTX-Eum and ITX-Maeum trains stop in Ulsan to alleviate the inconvenience of citizens traveling to Ulsan Station to use high-speed trains (KTX).

With the decision to stop at Taehwagang Station, Ulsan citizens will be able to travel to Seoul within 3 hours from Taehwagang Station located in the city center, without having to move to the outskirts where Ulsan Station is located.

Also, the ITX-Maeum between Bujeon Station and Gangneung Station is expected to stop at Taehwagang Station, Namchang Station, and Buk-Ulsan Station starting January 1, enabling travel from Ulsan to Gangneung in about 3 hours and 30 minutes, greatly improving transportation accessibility not only to the metropolitan area but also to Gangwon Province.

Meanwhile, Ulsan City is currently conducting a feasibility study to attract KTX-Sancheon to stop at Taehwagang Station upon completion of the double-track project between Osong and Pyeongtaek scheduled for 2028. The urban railway Line 1, starting from Taehwagang Station, is also being promoted with a goal to open in 2029.

An official from Ulsan City said, “With the stop of KTX-Eum high-speed trains and the sequential opening by 2032 of the ‘Ulsan-Yangsan-Busan Metropolitan Railway’ and ‘Southeastern Circular Metropolitan Railway’ currently under preliminary feasibility studies in the metropolitan area, as well as urban tram Lines 1 and 2, Ulsan will establish an integrated railway network.” He added, “Centered on the two high-speed railway stations, Taehwagang Station and Ulsan Station, Ulsan will emerge as a true railway hub city leading the railway era of the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam region.”
