Gwangjin District Community Sports Center Opens 'Smart Library'

Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) is installing a smart library at the Gwangjin-gu Community Sports Center (2 Gucheonmyeon-ro) and will begin full-scale operation starting on the 16th.

The smart library is an unmanned system that allows users to borrow and return desired books anytime without visiting the library in person. The district currently operates five smart libraries within the area.

Among them, Gwangjin-gu relocated the smart library previously operated at the Gwangjin Information Library to the Community Sports Center to improve residents' access to libraries and encourage reading activities.

The smart library, located next to the center's entrance, houses around 300 new books and bestsellers across various fields. It operates 24/7, 365 days a year, and any member of the Gwangjin-gu public library can borrow books available at the smart library. Up to two books can be borrowed at a time, and they must be returned within 14 days after borrowing.

Starting mid-January next year, Gwangjin-gu plans to operate an "interlibrary loan service" through the smart library.

In the future, residents wishing to borrow books held by seven public libraries (Gwangjin Information Library, Junggok Culture and Sports Center Library, Jayang Hangang Library, Jayang 4-dong Library, Guui 3-dong Library, Gunja Library, and Gwangjin Children's English Library) can make a reservation in advance on the library website and pick up the books at the smart library.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, "With the installation of the smart library at the Gwangjin-gu Community Sports Center, we expect a significant improvement in the convenience of library use for residents," adding, "We hope many residents actively use the Gwangjin-gu Community Sports Center smart library, where they can enjoy both exercise and reading together."
