Lee "Unreasonable and Divisive"
Democratic Party Urges Passage of Yoon Impeachment Motion on 14th
Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, said on the morning of the 12th regarding the statement announced by President Yoon Seok-yeol, "I think the public must have been very surprised," and added, "We will do our best to quickly manage the situation."
Leader Lee made these remarks to reporters on his way back to the National Assembly after a meeting with Archbishop Jeong Soon-taek on the morning of the 12th. Earlier, when meeting Archbishop Jeong at the Catholic Archdiocese of Seoul in Jung-gu, Seoul, he said, "Politics is about allowing our people to live their daily lives comfortably, but it seems to be troubling the people instead, so I feel sorry as a member of society."

Shortly after the private meeting between Leader Lee and Archbishop Jeong, Han Min-soo, spokesperson for the Democratic Party, conveyed, "Leader Lee said, 'President Yoon does not seem to be acting reasonably and appears to be dividing sides only.'" Spokesperson Han added, "The Archbishop also expressed agreement and said, 'The religious community will do its part to promote unity.'" He also said, "Both expressed concern, wondering if this is not encouraging division and extremism rather than unity."
The Democratic Party announced that until the impeachment motion against President Yoon is passed, an internal party body chaired by Kim Min-seok, a Supreme Council member, will hold meetings daily at 7:40 a.m. and 9 p.m.
