Actor Jung Chan expressed anger over fake news surrounding him after attending a rally on the 7th calling for President Yoon Seok-yeol's resignation.
On the 10th, Jung Chan posted on his Instagram account, "There is no such post anywhere on my Instagram. It is a lie, a rumor, and false information," along with a screenshot of a post written by a netizen.
The captured post read, "It's frustrating that I can't upload a photo. Have you seen the post by the talent Jung Chan saying that one-third of the people at the Yeouido rally were foreigners (Chinese)? It's scary. This country." Jung Chan pointed out this as fake news and expressed displeasure, saying, "The person who wrote and spread that post seems to be very unwell. They should go to the hospital immediately." He then added hashtags such as 'liar,' 'false information,' 'rumor,' 'democracy,' and 'the people are the owners of the nation' to the post.
"One-third foreigners at an exhibition" → manipulated to "one-third foreigners at the rally"
On the 7th, Jung Chan said, "I came to Yeouido with my child to see an exhibition," and mentioned the status of K-content by saying, "Many people are gathering in Yeouido today, and one-third here are foreigners. K-culture is scary." He revealed his participation in the candlelight rally by saying, "Since I came to Yeouido, I can't just see the exhibition and leave. I hope today becomes a day when democracy blossoms." The phrase "one-third foreigners" mentioned in the fake news referred to the exhibition and was unrelated to the rally site.
Netizens who saw the post responded with comments such as, "So this is how fake news is created," "Why do people do such things?" "I saw it earlier too. Almost misunderstood," "Sue them," "A world where fake news runs rampant on YouTube and Instagram," "What kind of malice makes people tell such lies?" and "It's creepy and scary."
