Community Collaboration Writer Training Program ‘WEAVER’ Operation
At the Yangsan City English Library in Gyeongnam, a 2024 community collaboration author development program called ‘WEAVER’ was conducted for 10 citizens interested in English picture books, and a publication celebration was held on the 11th in the multipurpose hall on the 3rd floor of the English Library.
The community collaboration author development program ‘WEAVER’ is named after the English word meaning a person who weaves, symbolizing becoming an author who weaves stories as if spinning threads. The program involves collaboration between talented individuals in the community (art workshops, local bookstores, libraries) and participants to learn the entire publishing process?from planning picture books, drawing illustrations, English adaptation and translation, proofreading and editing?to creating English picture books containing their own stories.
One participant in the program has even started working as an author after independently publishing their work using the program’s results.
The 10 books created through this program will be registered and managed in the Yangsan City English Library’s book management system so that library users can access them.
Seo Minsu, director of the city library, said, “We will continue to discover and utilize various talents in the community so that users can become active participants who create culture within the library rather than passive users, and strive to cultivate a reading promotion culture that breathes together with the community.”
