Seosan City in Chungnam Province has unveiled a blueprint for making Seosan Hanwoo a premium brand, as part of the 8th popularly elected administration's pledge to support local Hanwoo farmers and revitalize the regional economy.
Kim Gapsik, Director of the Seosan Agricultural Technology Center, held a press conference in the city hall briefing room on the 11th and stated, "Seosan, known as the 'Father of Korean Cattle' and home to the Hanwoo Improvement Center that supplies 98% of Hanwoo semen nationwide, will establish a specialized Seosan Hanwoo Street to enhance the brand recognition of Seosan Hanwoo and secure the future of livestock farmers."
The Seosan Hanwoo Specialized Street Development Project is a mid- to long-term plan under the theme 'Eat, Stroll, and Enjoy,' linking Hanwoo ranch areas with tourist attractions in the Unsan-myeon region.
The connected tourism projects include the Unsan Hanwoo Ranch Wellness Trail, which will be completed in Yonghyeon-ri this year, as well as Gayasan Natural Recreation Forest and Yonghyeon Valley.
From August to December last year, the city conducted a basic planning and feasibility study for the Seosan Hanwoo Specialized Street and received a report from the consulting firm outlining 28 projects to be implemented over 10 years from 2025 to 2034.
The 28 projects will be divided into three phases. In the first phase, detailed plans for 11 projects will be established starting next year, with input from Unsan-myeon residents, and will be carried out through 2028.
The first phase includes supporting village restaurants in Unsan-myeon to serve Seosan Hanwoo and attracting pop-up restaurants to Hanwoo ranches.
In addition, plans will be developed and implemented to build a wellness center that combines travel and health as a relaxation space.
Kim Gapsik, Director of the Seosan Agricultural Technology Center, said, "We will do our utmost to establish and implement thorough plans for the Seosan Hanwoo Specialized Street, creating a virtuous cycle that benefits both livestock farmers and tourists."
