Icheon City Holds Plaque Ceremony for 'UNICEF Child-Friendly City'

Mayor Kim Kyung-hee: "Creating a City Where All Generations Are Happy"

On the 11th, Icheon City in Gyeonggi Province held a plaque ceremony for the 'UNICEF Child-Friendly City' certification in the city hall lobby.

The 'UNICEF Child-Friendly City' refers to a city that has an environment friendly to children, where children's rights are fully realized and they can live better lives, based on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Since 2018, the city has established and implemented policies centered on children's rights to obtain UNICEF certification. In particular, it has actively promoted projects in various fields such as expanding facilities for children, strengthening education and welfare policies, and increasing opportunities for children's participation. The city has especially formed a 'Children's Participation Committee' to directly reflect children's voices in policies.

With this certification as an opportunity, the city plans to strengthen the creation of a child-friendly environment. In particular, to provide more play opportunities for children in areas lacking playground facilities, the city will promote the 'Visiting Anytime Playground Project' and enhance its status as a UNICEF Child-Friendly City.

At the plaque ceremony, Mayor Kim Kyung-hee, City Council Chairman Park Myung-seo, and related personnel including the Child-Friendly City Promotion Committee, the Working Group, and the Children's Participation Committee attended. Mayor Kim said, "This UNICEF Child-Friendly City certification is not the end but a new beginning," adding, "We will continue to strive to make Icheon a city where not only children but all generations are happy."
