Deputy Governor Oh checked whether Gyeonggi Province's emergency disaster recovery measures were being promptly implemented on site and whether there were any difficulties faced by those on the ground.
The livestock farm visited that day, located in Cheongbuk-eup, raises 55 dairy cows. Due to the collapse of the barn, 40 animals were urgently slaughtered, and 15 milking cows were sold. The collapse of 3,950m2 of the barn caused damages amounting to 750 million KRW, and demolition work was underway to prevent further collapse of the barn.
Following Governor Kim Dong-yeon's directive to establish rapid recovery plans such as advance payments with later settlements, the province allocated a reserve fund of 5 billion KRW to support emergency recovery for livestock farms, of which 3.2 billion KRW was distributed to the affected cities and counties on the 6th.
The reserve fund will be used for rescue operations for isolated livestock, rental fees for manpower and equipment needed to reinforce pillars and demolish collapsed barns to ensure worker safety, and to prevent environmental pollution through entrusted disposal of deceased livestock.
Additionally, farms enrolled in livestock disaster insurance will receive compensation for deceased animals and damages to collapsed barns, with damage assessments currently underway for compensation purposes.
Municipalities that suffered large-scale damage from this heavy snowfall will receive national government support for recovery costs according to disaster countermeasures, while farms not enrolled in livestock disaster insurance will be supported with disaster recovery loans and emergency living funds.
Deputy Governor Oh Huseok stated, “Gyeonggi Province has decided to provide 67.75 billion KRW to support rapid recovery from the heavy snowfall damage and to assist residents affected by the snowfall,” adding, “Please urgently identify and resolve difficulties on site so that livestock farms can resume farming activities as quickly as possible.”
