Jeonnam Damyang-gun, the nation's only 'Humanities Education and Traditional Garden Special Zone,' received the Minister of SMEs and Startups Award in the regional special zone performance evaluation.


According to the county on the 11th, Damyang Humanities Education and Traditional Garden Special Zone was selected as an 'Outstanding Special Zone' in the '2024 (last year's performance) Regional Special Zone Operation Performance Evaluation' hosted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, which was recently conducted for 181 special zones nationwide.


The evaluation was conducted through document review, expert and private special zone committee assessments, followed by a final review by a public evaluation group. The judging criteria included special zone operation strategies, utilization of regulatory exemptions, as well as regional economic ripple effects such as business attraction and job creation.


Damyang-gun was recognized for its achievements by implementing customized educational policies based on abundant humanities resources to establish a human-centered educational city foundation, and by promoting various policies to become an ecological garden city, including the establishment of the Korea Garden Culture Center.


County Governor Lee Byeong-no emphasized, "We plan to continue leveraging Damyang's strengths, represented by an ecological city and humanities, to successfully promote the special zone project. We will do our best to revitalize the local economy and create a happy city where anyone wants to visit and live."
