On the 11th, it was announced that Naver Cloud and Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) have signed a contract to build a generative artificial intelligence (AI) platform.
KHNP will introduce Naver Cloud's ultra-large AI product, 'NeuroCloud for HyperCLOVA X,' and build a generative AI platform specialized for KHNP by March next year.
Through this contract, the two companies will integrate generative AI technology into the nuclear power industry by training HyperCLOVA X with over 40 years of accumulated nuclear power plant operation experience data and various procedural documents, enhancing the digital transformation and safety of the nuclear power industry. They also plan to improve the operational efficiency of nuclear power plants to secure differentiated competitiveness unique to the domestic nuclear power industry.
The NeuroCloud for HyperCLOVA X that KHNP is adopting this time is a service that installs cloud infrastructure directly within the customer's data center, allowing generative AI to be trained only within a closed network, fundamentally preventing data leakage. Companies can safely utilize generative AI while complying with their respective security policies.
KHNP emphasized that security is the most important aspect in adopting generative AI. Through this contract, they judged that it is possible to establish a Korean language-specialized ultra-large AI language model with verified performance and build an exclusive AI platform internally to secure independent and safe AI capabilities.
Naver Cloud stated that this case is significant as the world's first nuclear power plant-specialized large language model (LLM) service construction. Furthermore, based on this case, they plan to expand sovereign AI construction to various industrial fields and prepare to extend it globally.
Kim Yoo-won, CEO of Naver Cloud, said, "This contract is the second large-scale contract case achieved about a year after the launch of NeuroCloud for HyperCLOVA X," adding, "Based on this, the two companies will join forces to create a foundation to expand this model to the global market."
