The Gyeonggi-do Forest Sector Comprehensive Evaluation of Cities and Counties, conducted annually for 31 local governments in Gyeonggi-do, selects outstanding cities and counties based on their performance in forest policy and forest project implementation.

The evaluation criteria consist of six categories: forest policy (special and excellent policies, publicity achievements, etc.), forest disasters (wildfire prevention, landslide prevention), forest resources (afforestation, wood utilization, forest roads), forest recreation, forest pests and diseases, and mountain area management.

Yangju City was selected as an excellent institution by achieving outstanding results in all categories.

In particular, the city was highly praised for its active efforts contributing to the development of forest policies, such as hosting a forest education contest for young children to promote carbon neutrality and forest education activation, operating forest recreation facilities like a wood culture experience center and forest camping site to expand forest experience opportunities, and actively utilizing drones to prevent wildfires and stop their re-spread.

Mayor Kang Su-hyun of Yangju City said, “This achievement is the result of the united efforts of all forest department staff who actively worked on forest sector initiatives, and we will continue to do our best to create healthy and sustainable forests.”
