A Popular Spot for Photography
Enhancing Belonging and Pride
Gyeongsang National University held the 'GNU Lettering Sculpture Unveiling Ceremony' on the 10th at the plaza in front of the Central Library on the Gajwa Campus, attended by President Kwon Jin-hoe, university headquarters officials, faculty, staff, and about 100 students.
This GNU lettering sculpture was planned to strengthen the university's identity and symbolism following the integration of Gyeongsang National University and Gyeongnam National University of Science and Technology in March 2021, and to create a popular photo spot and landmark for visitors. Gyeongsang National University raised interest from the production stage by surveying the types and locations of design drafts among university members and outsiders.
The GNU lettering sculpture is a large structure measuring 5 meters wide and 1.85 meters tall, made of durable stainless steel and sturdy granite base stones. Additionally, LED lighting was installed to make it a beautiful photo spot even at night, designed to serve as a new symbolic space of the university both day and night.
The External Cooperation Office of Gyeongsang National University prepared events to add meaning to the unveiling of the GNU lettering sculpture, such as 'photo sessions with the Jinu character' and 'selecting photos taken with the sculpture (uploaded on SNS) to give souvenirs' for current students.
The president said, “The GNU lettering sculpture unveiled today was made using the first letters of the university's English name and will become a photo spot and a symbol that enhances the sense of belonging and pride for university members and alumni,” adding, “In particular, the main gate of the Gajwa Campus, which is the main campus of Gyeongsang National University, the GNU lettering sculpture, and the Central Library are aligned in a straight line, which I believe is very well composed aesthetically and spatially.”
