Germany TCV Rheinland Certification Acquired
Samsung Display has become the first in the industry to receive carbon emission reduction certification for smartphone panels. This achievement reflects a reduction of more than 10% in carbon emissions throughout the entire process of manufacturing, distributing, using, and disposing of organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panels for major set products such as the Galaxy S24 and Z Flip6 compared to previous models.

On the 11th, Samsung Display announced that it had obtained the 'Carbon Emission Reduction Certification' (PCR) from the German testing and certification body TUV Rheinland. PCR is a certification granted to products that have reduced carbon emissions during the production, distribution, use, and disposal processes of electronic products, and it was first introduced by TUV Rheinland last year.
To reduce carbon emissions, Samsung Display introduced a real-time monitoring system for non-operating hours of panel manufacturing equipment. Through this, they minimized standby power consumption of the equipment and improved operational efficiency, reducing power usage of manufacturing equipment for two types of panels by more than 5%.
Samsung Display also received high evaluations for carbon emission reduction management by being the first in the industry to utilize wind energy as an energy source in the manufacturing process. They improved the treatment efficiency of process gases used in deposition (N2O, nitrous oxide), thereby reducing process gas emissions.
Lee Geon-hyung, Vice President and Head of Global Infrastructure, stated, "Starting with obtaining carbon emission reduction certification for our flagship smartphone OLED products, we will continue efforts to reduce carbon emissions across all production products."
Meanwhile, Samsung Display's Asan 1 Campus was selected by the Ministry of Environment in September as a 'Leading Company in Circular Economy and Outstanding Performance Workplace.' The campus was recognized for reducing waste volume by 17% compared to the previous year and increasing the recycling rate to 98.3% as of last year.
